Haiti’s new interim Prime Minister Michel Patrick Boisvert have welcomed the swearing in of a provisional government as opening a solution to the multi-dimensional crises facing the country.
The nine-member Transitional Council was sworn in on Thursday amid tight security as the country continues to grapple with widespread gang violence.
The Council will lead the efforts to restore law and order and to put arrangements in place for free and fair elections before its mandate runs out in early 2026.
The Transition Council is made up of representatives of leading political parties in Haiti and was formed from negotiations mediated by CARICOM, the US and other stakeholders.
As part of those negotiations the incumbent Prime Minister Ariel Henry agreed to step down. He submitted his resignation shortly before the Transitional council was sworn in.
